Elinor made her way over the mottled stone floor with as easy a grace as though it were a flowery turf, but Patricia, not so well schooled in concealing her feelings, made a wry mouth. Judith, who had been scanning her narrowly, opened her eyes at this, and asked innocently, "Is that why you thought you'd like him? Because he was older and more grown-up?" "If anybody wakes up this town it will be I," I said as I flung down the gauntlet with a high head. Jen started, and looked sharply at the old man, who, to all appearances, was answering his questions with all possible candor. "It was found in these grounds." "Can you prove him guilty?".
